About Us

A little of our history…

Sollenberger Painting was started in 1970 by Al Sollenberger of Elizabethtown. He was a biology teacher at Middletown High School and decided to start painting in his spare time and weekends. Over the years, he has employed many people–family members, teacher friends, church friends, refugees from far away places, and the sons and daughters of many local families. His approach to hiring people close to him always led to a great work atmosphere and feeling of family among the group.

His son, Kurt, painted throughout HS and during breaks from attending Gettysburg College. After a couple years in the financial services industry, he returned to Elizabethtown in 1991 and rejoined the business. Shortly thereafter, Al and Kurt became partners in Sollenberger Painting and turned it into a full-time venture. Al “retired” from the business in 2006 and Kurt has been the sole proprietor ever since. His current crew of four full-time employees has over 90 years of experience between them.

Over the years, we have painted houses all over E-town and the surrounding communities. It’s hard to drive down a street in town without passing a project completed by Sollenberger Painting. We currently do a lot of work for Masonic Village in Elizabethtown, but also do many interior and exterior jobs throughout the community. Our relatively small size allows us to give a personal touch to all these projects, but we are big enough to complete most jobs in a relatively short time frame. Sollenberger Painting also employs several part-time employees during busier times, and some long-time sub-contractors as needed. This allows us to complete work on a timely basis, utilizing the manpower to get the job done quickly, but with experienced painters. This allows you to move on with your daily life without too much interruption.
